A senior officer who jumped to the assistance of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knife attacker was granted the King's Commendation for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a knife to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the officers and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver after a road collision in that location in July 2023.

Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Policeman stabbed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashcam video made public by the force depicted Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a hood up, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a blade extended.

He ran into the policeman who stumbled and went down to the street, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor although being multiple times hit with the knife.

PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a open target, concluding the fight to an end.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need something on my throat now, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell received multiple lacerations to his neck and further injuries to his limbs and torso, while Sergeant Foster experienced slash wounds.

The department said Sgt Foster employed his hands to stem his colleague's hemorrhaging prior to medical personnel reached the scene.

The new recognition arrives subsequent to the three officers were granted organizational Bravery Awards in late 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the local officer association in early 2024.

They further earned a Area Courage Honor in July 2024.

"The responses of each policeman in the end protected one another and meant no civilians suffered any injuries."

Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, as stated by the department.
